THE HAGUE, Netherlands, November 18, 2002 – New Skies Satellites N.V. (AEX, NYSE: NSK), the global satellite communications company, and ST Teleport, a full-service satellite communications solution provider and wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Telemedia, today announced an agreement making ST Teleport the latest partner in New Skies’ global network of mediaport facilities.
New Skies’ alliance with ST Teleport will strengthen the company’s global presence as well as its portfolio of value-added video and data services. Through its prime location in Singapore, premium turnaround services and excellent connectivity to terrestrial network infrastructures and Internet exchanges, ST Teleport will allow New Skies to offer seamless video, Internet and data transmissions between Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa and Europe via the NSS-703 and NSS-6 satellites. New Skies is scheduled to launch NSS-6 in early December.
“New Skies’ excellent coverage in conjunction with its powerful satellites and outstanding reputation for quality and customer service make this partnership an important component of our business going forward,” said Wee Way Kiat, ST Teleport’s general manager. “We believe the synergies created through this strategic relationship will add significant value to both our companies’ offerings to the broadcast and telecom industries.”
“ST Teleport offers vast expertise in ground segment operations as well as a secure, advanced and ideally situated facility that is extremely well connected to Singapore’s broadband infrastructure,” said Rudo Jockin, New Skies’ executive vice president, Sales and Marketing. “Coupled with our highly reliable satellite network, complementary mediaports and other ground-based resources, we can offer broadcasters, enterprises and telecom carriers excellent connectivity throughout Asia with complete access to the Western Hemisphere, all on one fully managed system.”
Mr. Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board, commented, “New Skies' partnership with a Singapore company like ST Teleport is a very positive development. This will reinforce Singapore's strong position as an InfoComms and media hub. Businesses in Singapore will also benefit from the new services that this partnership will bring.”
In December 2002, New Skies is scheduled to launch NSS-6 to 95 degrees east longitude, providing flexible and powerful coverage of the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, Asia and Australia, along with parts of Europe and Africa. A Ku-band satellite with Ka-band uplink capabilities, NSS-6 will feature three multiple-channels-per-carrier video platforms originating from the Middle East, and landing in Northeast Asia, Australia and within the Middle East itself.
ST Teleport will install a 7.2-meter antenna to access signals from NSS-6 as well as perform communication services monitoring. The teleport also connects to NSS-703, an established spacecraft linking Europe, Africa and Asia from 57 degrees east longitude.
This latest agreement with ST Teleport builds on New Skies’ comprehensive strategy of partnering with leading teleport operators throughout the world for the global transmission and distribution of customer broadcast feeds, cable programming, IP traffic and voice and data services. New Skies’ recently enhanced Washington Mediaport provides access to the United States and offers co-location facilities as well as local loop connectivity to a major metro video hub and North American fiber network. The recently announced strategic relationship with the United Kingdom’s Kingston inmedia provides New Skies customers with a fully integrated mediaport, including world-class video processing facilities northwest of London.
